- Suitable work area is selected, tidied and cleaned of any contaminants
- Appropriate equipment and tools are selected and checked for the required spring coiling process

- Machine is checked for safe and effective operation
- Machine settings and adjustments are made in accordance with job requirements and, machine and tool manufacturer instructions
- Machine start-up procedure is carried out in accordance with manufacturer instructions
- Machine is operated in accordance with its designed capacity and purpose, tooling requirements and to manufacturer recommendations
- Material is fed into machine in accordance with manufacturer instructions, safe handling procedures and standard workplace operating procedures
- Machine operation is monitored to ensure springs are produced to job specifications and quality requirements
- Problems with the required work and/or the operation of the machine are identified and reported to appropriate persons
- Clean up work area and maintain equipment
- Items that do not meet quality requirements are recycled or discarded according to workplace procedures
- Material that can be reused is collected and stored
- Waste and scrap is removed following workplace procedures
- Equipment and work area are cleaned and inspected for serviceable condition in accordance with workplace procedures
- Unserviceable equipment is tagged and faults identified in accordance with workplace procedures
- Equipment and tooling is maintained in accordance with workplace procedures
